FOR THE WEEK OF AUGUST 7, 2006
The newest 4400 Fan of the Week, Alyse, was introduced to the show by her brother. Her desired power would be the ability to "hear" a person in pain and protect them with an electromagnetic shield, even though it carries the risk of madness! She would use this power help people, just as her favorite character – Shawn Farrell – does. Here is her entry:
When the show first started a few seasons ago I did not watch it regularly. However, my brother who did watch persuaded me to watch an episode with him and I agreed. To be completely honest, now I'm hooked. It's hard enough waiting for the next episode let alone wait an entire summer for the show. I am aware that if the show were to be part of the fall lineup the plot may get hard to continue; however, I still wish it could be.
The most interesting aspect of the show to me is the effect of growing abilities. So many people on the show wish they were 4400's; however, the daily decisions the 4400's have make between right and wrong, good and evil, is amazing. Choosing the Nova group or choosing NTAC; they're trapped either way. Then there is the center, run by my favorite 4400 character (no offense to the others.) The reason I like Shawn Farrell so much is mainly because of his ability. Again with choice. He has the ability to hurt and to help and he chooses to help. Through all trials and tribulations he means for the best and that's where my ability, if I had one, would come in.
I love to help people, and I would help the world if I could, but it so happens I can't. If I could have any ability in the world, I would choose an electromagnetic shield. It may sound odd or wordy, but the truth is that this shield would be used to protect the innocent. The ability would permit anyone who had it to protect any person who needed help. Part of the ability would be being able to hear pain and react on it with an impenetrable shield of protection.
The fault in this ability is that it could drive some people to madness. Hearing constant pain and suffering could very well be the end to someone's sanity. But is that any different than Maia? Seeing pain and peril and being too young to act on it. Another question would be does an individual reserve the right to choose who is saved and who isn’t. A question that I just can't answer. Still, it would be a wicked cool ability to have.
