ONE HIP SUPERMARKET

Throughout the season, Music Producer Elliot Lurie will be taking us through the process by which each episode's music is chosen.

When I got the rough cut of this episode and heard Dido's "Life For Rent" playing in the supermarket, my first reaction was, "Wow, what a hip grocery store!" My local place plays oldies and muzak. But as the scene progressed and the 'source' music' became underscore for the scene, I loved it.

Credit for this one goes to the picture editors. They placed the song in the very first rough cut I received. In that situation, I think the music supervisor should just say "this works great" and move ahead with the rights clearance. So I did.

I also think our mixers did a deft job of transitioning the sound of the music from 'source' into 'scource' and back.

The little piece playing at the photo gallery is called "Un Simple Histoire," by Thievery Corporation.
