THE CONTESTANTS REALLY SEEM TO TAKE THE JUDGES' COMMENTS TO HEART. IF YOU WERE COMPETING, WOULD YOUR RESPONSE BE THE SAME OR WOULD YOU HAVE A DIFFERENT STRATEGY?
When I first got into performing I had a number of pieces of advice given to me from a number of sources. Much of it I tried to implement...to a point. Then I realized that this is my career and I have to make the best decisions I can make for what I'm trying to achieve. I still get advice and I still listen but I also make certain my input is taken into consideration. What the contestants will learn sooner or later is that it is their career and they must take ownership of it. They should be certain that if there are people in their lives that have their best interests at heart, to be open to information coming from those sources.
Eventually, the public is the final judge as to how far your career will go. The contestants will need to continue to write and perform material that has mass appeal in order to make a career in entertainment. One of the things that tends to make country music so successful is the fact that much of it tends to focus on true experiences people can relate to. I believe the contestants will do well if their music focuses on the target audience...sounds obvious but it is easier said than done.
