Melanie Torres' move from her hometown in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Music City three years ago was the first big step for the classically trained vocalist toward the realization of her dream. The road to success was paved long before she moved to Nashville.
Reared in a musical family, Melanie comes from a long line of musicians and singers going back four generations. From a very young age, Melanie loved being in the spotlight. She began dancing ballet at the age of 4 and competing in horse shows across the state at age 9. She performed regularly in school musicals and state fairs, and sang in the All State Choir, District Honor Choir and Swing Choir. She sang the national anthem at many sporting events including college basketball and hockey games.
After being awarded a full music and academic scholarship, Melanie majored in vocal performance in opera at the University of New Mexico and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in music. During her college years, she gained experience on stage performing in multiple Broadway theatre productions with lead roles in such favorites as The King and I, The Secret Garden, Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat. She also had major roles in operas such as The Merry Widow, The Medium and die Fledermaus.
In 1998, She began competing in pageants and was crowned Miss Albuquerque 2001 and 2nd runner-up Miss New Mexico 2001.
Once in Nashville, Melanie landed a job bartending three nights and singing two nights a week at the World Famous Tootsie's Orchid Lounge, where the legends of country music once sang. While pursuing her career as a singer, Melanie has kept busy writing music, singing demos and going out on the road with her band. She also recently took the stage singing harmony vocals for an opening act for country's hottest newcomer, Gretchen Wilson.
