Matt Mason brings an outlaw edge to the competition. His sound and stage presence combine traditional country with rock & roll attitude. Matt is not one to conform to popular sound or style, preferring to adhere to country music's honky-tonk roots.
Born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana, Matt learned how to play guitar by age 11. He and his family attended a small church where a kind man taught Matt how to pick the chords on his first guitar. That was all it took for Matt to become hooked. From that day on, he would practice guitar and singing for hours upon end in his bedroom. At this time in Matt's endeavors, Elvis, The King, was always coming out of his bedroom speakers.
Matt's voice really began to develop in his mid-high school years, and his first performance was during a Spring Break trip down in South Florida. Matt talked his dad into allowing him to enter a talent show one night. The crowd's reaction was more pleasing than Matt (and especially Matt's dad) had anticipated. That night fueled Matt's desire, becoming the catalyst that has led Matt to where he's come thus far.
At age 16, Matt had the pleasure of opening for The Charlie Daniels Band at the Eastern States Exposition. He has also opened for Vern Gosdin, Mel McDaniel, Jennifer Hanson, and Brian McComas at various shows.
After graduating high school, Matt packed up and moved to Nashville, Tennessee, in the Spring of 2005. Matt can be heard playing most nights somewhere on Broadway. He quickly earned a gig at the World Famous Tootsie's Orchid Lounge after moving to Nashville, and plays there almost every day. Singing and standing in the same places where many before him have made it big, Matt Mason is chasing the dream.
