CHRIS YOUNG SETS RECORD AS HIGHEST SELLING DEBUT BY A MALE COUNTRY ARTIST IN 2006
Makes Debut Appearance On The Tonight Show With Jay Leno October 12
NASHVILLE, TN -- October 11, 2006 -- Selling over 36,000 copies in its first week and debuting at No. 3 on the Billboard Country Chart and No. 22 on the Billboard Top 200, RCA Records recording artist Chris Young set a record with the release of his self-titled album. Chris Young is the highest selling debut by a male country artist in 2006.
Michael McCall of the Associated Press writes, "Young shows great restraint and taste for his age." McCall also describes the current single "Drinkin' Me Lonely" as "a classic, tear-in-his-beer barroom heartbreaker equal to those by such honky-tonk heroes like Randy Travis or the late Keith Whitley."
Mario Tarradell of the Dallas Morning News labels Young "a 'triple threat.' He can sing, blessed with a smooth yet penetrating baritone ... he can write a song ... and he has star quality..."
Produced by Buddy Cannon (Kenny Chesney, Sara Evans), Chris Young showcases an up-to-date, contemporary edge on traditional country music. The album features several songs that Chris wrote or co-wrote including the current single "Drinkin' Me Lonely," the rockin' "Lay It On Me," the celebratory "Small Town Big Time" and the love song "Center Of My World."
In the September 25 issue of Country Weekly, Young was voted the No. 1 Hottest Bachelor in the fan-voted contest, topping a list that included Kenny Chesney, Gary Allan and Keith Anderson. Making another big debut this week, Young will perform on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno on Thursday, October 12 performing his current single, "Drinkin' Me Lonely.
