MR. MONK AND THE END - PART 2 (#819)
EPISODE PREMIERE: December 4, 2009
Days later and fully recovered from the poisoning, Monk still wonders what Rickover meant by his last words. Finally, while packing away his collection of evidence from the Trudy case, Monk figures it out. He notices an old newspaper article about Wendy Stroud that tells of her finding an abandoned baby girl around the time Trudy would have given birth. Monk realizes that this baby must have been Trudy's. Trudy's baby didn't die. Rickover arranged for it to be taken away and given up for adoption. Trudy's daughter is still alive!

Monk tracks down the daughter, who agrees to meet with Monk. Her name is Molly Evans, and she resembles Monk's beloved Trudy. Monk is moved to tears when he meets her, and they become fast friends. Monk wants to quit taking cases so he can spend more time with Molly, but she convinces him that he has an obligation to continue using his amazing ability to solve crime. With the mystery of Trudy's death solved and Molly in his life, Monk has found a new measure of peace. The people around him have also found peace: Natalie has a serious relationship with Lt. Albright, Stottlemeyer is married, and Disher is moving to New Jersey to be with Sharona. But people still commit murder, and so Monk receives another phone call from Stottlemeyer with another case that needs solving. Monk and Natalie head for the door of his apartment like they have so many times before, and this time, Monk remembers to check his stove before leaving.
