MR. MONK AND THE END - PART 2 (#819)
EPISODE PREMIERE: December 4, 2009
Monk finally has a name: Ethan Rickover. Monk knows him - he's a local judge who's currently up for a position on the California Supreme Court. Monk goes to Rickover's confirmation hearing and confronts him. Monk explains that twelve years ago, Rickover was up for a new job, and killed Trudy and Wendy Stroud to cover up his extramarital affair. Judge Rickover was in the clear for twelve years, until the birthing center where Trudy went during her pregnancy recently began updating their files. Rickover hired an assassin to kill the clinic's director and destroy any remaining record of his involvement with Trudy, and later had the same assassin poison Monk. Rickover denies everything, but Monk knows the judge is guilty and promises to punish him for what he's done.

Unfortunately, Monk is getting sicker from the poison and must be hospitalized. Stottlemeyer visits and tells Monk that there's solid evidence linking Rickover to the birthing clinic murders, and promises that he will bring Rickover to justice. Later, Monk remembers a recent encounter with Rickover where the judge said he'd never leave his current home.

Meanwhile, Natalie is with Lt. Albright at Monk's house. She grabs a wipe to clean something, and begins to feel sick. She realizes that the poison has been in Monk's wipes all along! They try desperately to get the news to Monk, but Monk is missing from his hospital room.

Stottlemeyer and Disher find Monk at Judge Rickover's house. Monk has a gun, and is making Rickover dig into the ground. It appears that Monk, consumed by a desire for vengeance, wants Rickover to dig his own grave. Stottlemeyer begs Monk to stop. Then, Rickover hits something. It's the remains of Wendy Stroud, the midwife who went missing twelve years ago. Rickover wouldn't move from his house because he had a dead body buried in the back yard! With Rickover exposed, Monk drops his gun. Rickover grabs the gun and shoots himself, but not before saying, "Take care of her."
