FOR THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 18, 2009
My name is Molly and I am crazily addicted to Monk. :)
I started watching Monk when I first moved to America in 2001. It was relatively a new show, on it's first season, and I was hooked from the very first episode I saw. The way Sharona would raise her eyebrows and roll her eyes at Adrian and never let him get away with anything, Randy and Stottlemeyer going back and forth with their small yet humorous side discussions, Monk having to touch every thing he saw, or having to have multiple dishes so his food NEVER touched,..all these small but essentially key elements that make Monk the hilarious and brilliant show that it is.
There are very few programs like Monk these days. The show is a blend of humor, wit, issues that the world faces, understanding, and overall pure, inspiration. Monk depicts the story of a very intelligent and very gifted (yet cursed) man who whether he likes it or not makes the best out of his situation. He does what he loves, what he is amazingly gifted at, and in the process helps a lot of people in need, despite the fact that he suffers from a rather severe case of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. It's inspiring to see a modern day hero portrayed this way. To see his faults but to see the magic unveiled each time Adrian Monk steps foot onto a crime scene. It makes him easy to relate to, and brings the whole story closer to people's minds and hearts.
Monk has become a very big part of my life. I've seen all the episodes (but I have them all on dvd just in case), I never miss a Monkathon, or a Friday night premier, I have multiple bobbleheads, even my final term paper of my previous school year described the trials and triumphs depicted in Monk's story line. It has encouraged me so much over the years in multiple ways, and I am so sad to see it go! Everytime I think that it's on its last season puts me on the verge of tears. But it had a great run, and I will definately be watching repeats!
Congrats to Mr. Tony Shaloub and his Seventh Emmy Nomination for Monk! I was rooting for you at the Golden Globes Tony! Spectacular Job!
