FOR THE WEEK OF January 30, 2009
I begin by saying that it may "look" like I am an "actual" monk I am not! I am a "friar" a Franciscan. We share many characteristics of a monk but are a bit different. People always ask if I " am a monk?" It's easy to get us confused.
When Friday night comes in the friaries where I might be I "stake out" a TV early so I can watch the only show I am interested in Monk. It is a trick because in most friaries there are very few TVs and they are usually tuned to sports or news and it's "first come first serve" when it comes to the TV! I just hate it when someone beats me to the TV on Friday nights! It's a challenge but it's worth it to watch my favorite guy with OCD, Adrian, and his "enablers."
I struggle with OCD and its pain and consequences. Actually, the communities that I live in seem to attract OCD types. The religious lifestyle accommodates this sort of person. It can be dealt with and managed, but on Friday nights I enjoy celebrating my "disorder" a bit with the cast and crew of my favorite show Monk! Please keep us laughing for many more seasons, Tony! I'll continue to "save" the TV for you on Fridays. You're the best! God bless you, Brother!
Oh yea in the episode about the monks: monks don't actually take vows of silence. It's a discipline thing. Also, the cords that the monks wore should hang off the right side of the robe not the left. And monks don't usually wear their hoods unless it's cold! For what it's worth.
