FOR THE WEEK OF JULY 16, 2007
Hi! My name is Lynn, and I'm a huge Monkaholic!
I first started watching Monk quite a while ago. I would watch a few episodes here and there, but I didn't get fully addicted until last year. My father was watching one of the marathons, and told me I needed to really sit down and watch this show. So I did, and after that day, I was hooked!
Whenever I'm having a bad day at work or something is troubling me, I sit down, pop in a Monk DVD, and just laugh my cares away. I can relate to Monk's character in the way that I am very naive and very gullible, and that I need to wash my hands several times a day. If I don't, I go crazy!
I think everyone, in some way, shape, or form, can relate to Monk. He's your everyday guy who is dealing with a not-so-everyday disorder. He also faces a loa of problems that I know a lot of people face, but are too scared to admit it, or don't realize that they're facing them. Monk opens a lot of people's eyes, and teaches them that it's okay to face your fears, and that everybody has some sort of fear, whether it be big or small. He's the most relatable character on television today.
My favorite Monk episode is Mr. Monk Gets Drunk. Tony Shalhoub gives one of the most hilarious performances in that episode that I've ever seen on television. The fact that he drinks the wine, thinking it's non-alcoholic, cracks me up to no end! Explaining his reasoning to Stottlemeyer and Disher, while stumbling around in a drunken stupor, takes the cake!
Hats off to Tony and the rest of the Monk cast and creative team for putting together such a wonderful show that I, and millions of other fans, can enjoy every week and for years to come.
