FOR THE WEEK OF JUNE 11, 2007
In late June of 2005, I was in the hospital plagued with a bad case of pneumonia. I almost died. I knew of the show Monk because an ex-boyfriend (who is also a police detective) was fascinated with the show. So wanting to get rid of every memory of him, I had no desire to watch Monk, LOLOL! I'm sorry, but it's the truth.
But when I was released from the hospital, I went to stay with my Mom for a week until my strength built back up. Who knew Mom was such a Monk fan? I had to stay in her room for an entire week. I could hardly move, so the TV stayed on the USA Network day in and day out, and it just so happened that a Monk marathon was on. I can't remember if it was only for one day or the whole week I was there, but I know that I laughed my way back to good health watching that show, and I have been hooked ever since. By the time I left my Mom's place, I was in good spirits.
A merry heart doeth good like a medicine, and in its own unique way, Monk helped in my healing process. Monk is nothing like me; he is so meticulous – everything has to be perfect. He killed me in that episode where he was trying to write his name on the chalk board (to introduce himself to the students) and he wanted every letter to be perfect... and when he got to the full stop after "Mr", he wanted it to be a perfect circle! Someone had to pick me up, it was so hilarious! Tony Shalhoub should have won the Golden Globe – what were they thinking. It's a great show and he's fantastic!!!
