FOR THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 23, 2006
Our latest Monk Fan of the Week, Janelle, watches Monk three times each Friday night, including once during a tea party with her daughter. Here is her entry...
My name is Janelle. I am of Monkish age. There definitely should be a Monk Week‚ with my name on it. If I watch any other show on television, no one knows about it. They only know not to ask me to do anything on Friday evening unless I can be home by Monktime.
Sure I set my recorder, but what could we possibly do that would be more enjoyable than watching Monk anyway? Then after watching it on TV, I watch the recording. And then as I flip through the late evening shows... well there it is again! I'll just watch that beginning scene... well, then there's that really funny part coming up... Yes, I am a three-time-per-Friday-night Monk watcher!
My 6-year-old daughter and I watch that 9:00 showing together. It's a very special time for us. She always prepares a tea party. She is pouring the tea and filling our plates with goodies as the foul play opens the show. Then she settles next to me on the love seat and we sip our tea, sit spellbound, and laugh together for an hour.
Of course my young daughter always wants to watch the Mr. Monk and the Kid episode. But it's much harder for me to pick a favorite! If I had to, I guess it would be one that focuses on his amazing abilities as well as his forcing his phobias aside for someone he cares about. I really enjoyed Mr. Monk Goes to Vegas because it showcased his super memory abilities as he played blackjack hours on end in order to win back for Randy what he had lost. It doesn't hurt that we get to hear the Captain sing a soulful karaoke number either. But picking a single episode would mean leaving out the notability of each and every episode.
Monk fanaticism is extremely contagious. A true addict will spread it to everyone around. I've introduced it to my best friend & my sister. I've loyally e-mailed about it to my friends in states around the country. I take DVDs to church and Bible study for those who don't get the USA Network. Keep those Monk episodes coming, and don't change a thing!
